Attorney Mike Rom presented at the Workers’ Compensation Seminar of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association on November 3, 2023.
His presentation focused on the appellate case Village of Western Springs v. Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, which involved a crossing guard client who sustained a wrist fracture after slipping on ice.
Initially, an arbitrator denied her claim. The firm filed a Petition for Review, and the Commission awarded benefits — only for the Circuit Court to overturn that decision. Rom appealed to the Appellate Court’s Workers’ Compensation division, which reinstated the benefits award.
