Jose Rivero has been honored by the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) board with the 2022 Distinguished Public Service Award, recognizing his outstanding commitment to serving disadvantaged populations.
The recognition acknowledges Rivero’s work as Chairman of the Farmworker & Landscaper Advocacy Project (FLAP). Under his leadership, FLAP grew from a budget under $50,000 with minimal staff to exceeding $2.5 million in funding with 11 employees. The organization now partners with over 200 organizations, including 69 law firms throughout Illinois, and serves approximately 250,000 very low-income workers annually.
PILI focuses on advancing equal access to justice by connecting legal professionals with individuals who need assistance.
